| Antonino Paladino was born in Bagheria ,Sicily in 1815.He married
Lucia DiQuarto in 1840 , and they had 3 children ; Salvatore,Angela
and Giovanna. As a Result of the generative powers of these 3,more
than 960 descendants were brought into this world. Salvatore
married Luisa Provenzano in 1862 and sired 8 children; Angela
married Simone Galioto in 1868 and brought forth 7 children;
Giovanna married Domenico LiVigni in 1873 and gave birth to 10
children. From these all other descendants can easily trace their
lineage. On page 1 of this booklet there is a generation to
generation chart showing the numbers in each of the 3 family
groups. Political, social and economic disadvantage forced our
forebears to seek new hopes and dreams in a far-off and promising
land called America. (Even the very name had a real Italian ring to
it.)Antonino's 3 children and their spouses came here from Sicily
between 1890 and 1900 ,and each settled in Bloomfield, NJ. with an
unbounded faith in the future and high hopes for their growing
children. Confronted at the outset with a strange language too
difficult for them to master ,they also had to bear and overcome
many instances of brutal discrimination because of their being
"Italian". Notwithstanding these lamentable experiences America
opened wide her doors of opportunity to them and their children.
They had brought with them from the old country our cherished
Sicilian pride and an innate aptitude for hard work, attributes
which solidified the integrity of the family and helped to guide
their children and grandchildren to unprecedented
academic, professional and business heights in only two
generations. These ideals are part of the heritage we ,the living
,claim as our legacy from truly courageous , undaunted and
industrious ancestors. In appreciation of the beneficence given to
them by America the fateful families proudly gave their sons
to serve in her armed forces in the several wars since 1900. By this
journal we also honor the memory of two who made the supreme
sacrifice in World War II: Ignazio Scaduto and Anthony V. Galioto.
There are only 3 living grandchildren of Antonino Paladino, and
all 3 are children of Giovanna LiVigni; Anthony, the oldest ,age
82,Mrs. Rose Viscuso and Mrs. Louise Carollo. As of this late hour (at
the time this journal went to press) the youngest descendant is Eric
Verniere, born July 13,1977.and also hailing from the LiVigni side of
the family. We also note here that the descendant most removed from
our common ancestor is Steven DePaul Jr., the only eighth generation
heir of Antonino Paladino. Yes, he too descends from the LiVigni
side.
The "reigning monarch" of our clan is Salvatore Paladino, a
direct descendant in the male line from Antonino Paladino. We pay
homage to him as Primogeniture of the estates, lands and
hereditaments of our common ancestor. We wholeheartedly support his
efforts to strengthen our bounds of fealty to one another and to
help us retain that tradition and heritage which was so dear to our
ancestors. Let us pray that we can do no less for our children.
Most of the descendants were born in Bloomfield and to this day
lice ,attend school, work or carry on their respective businesses in
and near Boomfield. As we are indeed proud of our community , that
community should likewise be proud of the many family members who
have contributed so much to its betterment. |
